I need some info, please take into account I am NOT computer literate. I wish to connect to free Wi-Fi from my desktop computer running XP.
What do I need to buy? things perhaps like a wireless G USB network adapter or a router? This setup will be needed only on one desktop. Plus might need an antenna booster.
How do I protect from viruses and other nasty stuff from entering my computer. There are many free sites in and around where I live in Twin Peaks area. I've heard about 'SF-LAN' but need to know how to access them after I have the hardware installed. Thanks --- Duke

Re: Free Wi-Fi San Francisco
Sun, August 28, 2005 - 12:21 AMThere are alot of resources out there on Wi-Fi. I'd start with getting a wireless network card for your PC and seeing what you can pick up that way. Your local computer store can help you find what you need.

Re: Free Wi-Fi San Francisco
Sun, August 28, 2005 - 10:08 AMI appreciate your suggestions. I've tried the 'Belkin G USB Netwrok Adapter' and it gave poor performance. Plus XP kept nagging & Bitchin during the install. I will return this today to COMPUSA.
Think I will go and ask the tech guys & Best Buy if I can find one that is knowledgeable.... I have a feeling I'M going to require more than an network adapter to accomplish my project. -
