I am hitching around the world and trying to determine which will work better for me as an ultra lightweight device that will allow me to access internet at wifi hotspots and also to do some work on my book during my travels.

i don't plan to activate a phone and am not sure if the PDAs that come with wifi can be used if they are not activated as phones. does anyone know for sure if you can use a PDA for wifi without activating the phone? i guess if you can't, the answer is clearly to get a lightweight computer.

the lightweight computers tend to be at least a pound heavier than the PDAs, even excluding an external keyboard for a PDA. So i'm hoping a PDA will will be useful.

Also, any advice on which lightweight computers and/or PDAs are best for my needs?
